Hungary plans to postpone planned excise tax increases by six months to July 2026 to protect jobs and industries, Economy Minister Marton Nagy told news site Index.

  • The move may cost the budget HUF10b-15b ($30m-$45m)
  • NOTE: Hungary plans to hold elections in 2Q next year, with the vote likely to take place in April
  • NOTE: Nagy said this week that this year’s deficit may miss the most recent 4.1%/GDP target, and may be as high as 4.5%
