Idaho Requires Short-Term Renters to Comply with Short-Term Marketplace Tax Obligations

March 20, 2026, 5:28 PM UTC

The Idaho Governor signed a law that includes imposing on owners of short-term rentals offering short-term rentals or vacation rentals directly to occupants, without use of a short-term rental marketplace, the same requirements as imposed on short-term rental marketplaces. A short-term marketplace is required to register with the state tax commission, collect, report, and pay taxes imposed on a lodging operator or occupant of a short-tern rental or vacation rental. The law takes effect on July 1. [H.B. 583, enacted 03/16/26]
