Incoming EU Tax Chief Promises to Simplify Corporate Rules

Wopke Hoekstra, a European Union commissioner tapped to handle tax issues in the coming years, said he aims to simplify European direct tax regimes and push forward progress on the OECD-led global tax deal.

Hoekstra said in remarks published Tuesday that he will “bring greater simplification and burden reduction” to tax regimes to support Europe’s economic ambition.

He added “it is critical to encourage as many jurisdictions as possible to implement the Pillar 2 framework”, referring to Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development rules that would enforce a 15% tax on large multinational companies, and that he would engage all ...
