India GST Panel to Discuss Compensation to States, FM Says (1)

A panel on India’s Goods and Services Tax will discuss the issue of compensation to states at its next meeting amid a disruption to revenue collection efforts caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.

  • The compensation levy -- collected from luxury or sin goods such as tobacco products, coal, aerated water and automobiles -- slowed last year and there were delays in payments to the states, Sitharaman wrote in an article in the Indian Express newspaper published Monday
