India’s Goods and Services Tax Council on Tuesday confirmed that online gaming businesses will face a GST of 28% on the full face value of the bets placed.
The decision puts online gaming at par with betting and gambling businesses, like casinos and horse-racing.
There will be “some amendment” to the GST law as a result, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said at a press conference at the end of the GST council meeting in New Delhi.
