The IRS has revised tax forms and increased cryptocurrency-specific training to boost its efforts to combat tax avoidance within the industry, an agency official said.
“We’ve given recent training to our revenue officers in summons preparation—on how to master a properly fashioned summons when we’re looking into virtual currency,” said Darren Guillot, deputy commissioner for collection and operations support in the IRS’s Small Business/Self-Employed division. Revenue officers are the individuals who collect taxes on behalf of the IRS.
