Israel Approves Carbon Tax Regime to Combat Climate Change

The Israeli government Aug. 2 approved a carbon tax regime to combat climate change. The government approved a proposal to: 1) apply carbon pricing in the first stage to all polluting fuels and at a later stage to greenhouse gas emissions from landfills and other emission sources; 2) apply carbon pricing for fuel combustion through the excise tax regime; and 3) start carbon pricing for coal, LPG, fuel oil, petcoke, and gas beginning in 2023.
