Japan Lower House Considers Bill to Reduce Consumption Tax Rate Due to Coronavirus

The Japanese lower house of parliament (Shugiin) Dec. 1 accepted for consideration Bill No. 19, to reduce the consumption tax rate, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The bill includes measures that would: 1) reduce the consumption tax rate to 5 percent over the next two years; and 2) increase the rate to 8 percent from 5 percent gradually thereafter.
