Japan’s Opposition DPP Calls for Sales Tax Cut to 5%

Japan’s opposition Democratic Party for the People calls for the country’s 10% sales tax to be halved to 5% in their manifesto for the summer upper house election.

  • Sales tax should be cut to 5% until real wage gains stabilize at 2%: DPP
  • Seeks nominal GDP of ¥1 quadrillion by 2035, against ruling party’s goal of getting there by 2040
