The Kazakhstani Prime Minister Feb. 11 announced proposed VAT measures. The proposals include: 1) an increase in the standard VAT rate to 16 percent; 2) the application of a 10 percent reduced VAT rate to the healthcare sector; 3) an exemption for agricultural producers, including legal entities, from paying VAT; 4) a reduction in the VAT registration threshold to 15 million Kazakhstani tenge (US$29,618) from 80 million tenge (US$157,704); and 5) changes to the retail tax regime including removing the restriction on the number of employees, and deducting payroll tax if income from sales exceeds 100 million tenge (US$197,124) per ...
