Keep Tax and Tariff Disputes Separate, IMF Official Says

A senior official at the International Monetary Fund on Thursday urged countries to keep separate tariff disputes from international tax cooperation.

Speaking at the American Bar Association tax conference in Amsterdam, Marnix van Rij said he was in favor of a multilateral solution at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development “as long as we can keep it separate” from the trade negotiations.

Van Rij, who is an alternate executive director, also urged negotiators to keep the talks “as technical as possible.”
