Kenya Adds More Gambling Companies to Automatic Payments System

Kenya expanded its initiative Monday to collect excise tax and withholding tax payments by including 20 more gambling companies.

The initiative is designed to automate remits of the top gambling companies based on total betting tax revenues in FY2021-2022. The Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority Rispah Simiyu said the initiative aims to enhance compliance for all betting companies.

  • The initiative started with 16 companies in November 2022, with authorities claiming to have already collected more than KES 5.8 billion ($43 million).
