A Kenyan High Court extended freeze orders on the collection of new taxes pending a full hearing by a bench of no less than three judges, according to Judge Mugure Thande.
- “I’m satisfied that there is merit in granting conservatory orders,” Thande says in her ruling
- The government will challenge the decision at the Court of Appeal, according to Kiragu Kimani, who is part of the government’s counsel team
- The ruling will have the effect of “shutting down the functions of the government,” says Mahat Somane, another member of the government’s counsel
