Lithuania Parliament Considers Bills to Establish Preferential VAT Rate for Specific Food Products

The Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) March 24 accepted for consideration Bill Nos. XVP-250 and XVP-252, to amend the VAT Law for the purposes of establishing a 5 percent preferential VAT rate for: 1) fresh fruits, vegetables, and berries sold in Lithuania; and 2) organic products used for food production in pre-schools, general education and vocational training schools, higher education institutions, health care institutions, institutions of the national defense system, and statutory institutions of the internal service system in Lithuania. The laws would generally enter into force Jan. 1, 2026. [Lithuania, Parliament, 03/24/25]
