Telecom operator Lycamobile UK must pay more than £50 million ($68 million) in value-added tax related to plans it sold to customers, the Upper Tribunal ruled.
The British multinational must pay VAT on the full price of mobile plan bundles at the point of sale, according to the decision dated Feb. 12 and published Monday.
The case involves prepaid mobile bundles that gave customers fixed allowances on call minutes, text messages and internet data usage over a set period.
Lycamobile paid VAT only to the extent of services that were utilized under the plan by customers.
