Maryland Expands Physician Preceptor Income Tax Credit Program

The Maryland Governor signed a law that includes: 1) expanding eligibility for the physician preceptor income tax credit to include physicians serving in a preceptorship program authorized by an accredited out-of-state medical school; 2) reducing to 90 the minimum number of hours of community-based clinical training hours for each of the minimum required three rotations; and 3) capping at $100,000 the aggregate amount of unissued credits that may be carried forward and issued in subsequent years. The law takes effect on July 1, and is applicable to taxable years beginning after Dec. 31, 2025. [S.B. 466, enacted 04/28/26]
