Mexican Senate Passes Sheinbaum’s Tax and Revenue Plan for 2026

Senators from Mexico’s ruling party approved the revenue portion of next year’s budget, including a slew of tax hikes that will boost income as the government also aims to narrow its 2026 fiscal deficit.

The budget outlines President Claudia Sheinbaum’s tax and spending priorities for what will be her second year in office, with the new or higher taxes targeting sodas, violent video games, cigarettes, and gambling winnings. Besides the so-called sin taxes, the measure also included a new e-commerce sales tax.
