Mexico’s Yorio Says No Fiscal Reform Under AMLO (Correct)

Mexico won’t need a fiscal reform under this administration or the next, according to Deputy Finance Minister Gabriel Yorio.

Mexico’s government has been boosting spending on key infrastructure projects. Earlier in July, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, known as AMLO, announced that pensions would increase by 25% starting in January. Still, officials don’t anticipate changes to the fiscal structure.

“We do not believe that fiscal reform is necessary now, nor in the next administration, because the next administration will receive healthy public finances,” said Yorio, speaking on the sidelines of a LatinFinance conference in Veracruz, Mexico.
