Mexico Gazettes Decree Amending Special Tax on Production, Services

The Mexican Official Gazette Nov. 7 published a decree amending the special tax on production and services. The decree includes measures: 1) introducing an 8 percent tax rate on video games with violent content, sold by resident or nonresident providers in physical format to the general public, or downloaded through digital intermediation platforms; 2) requiring digital intermediary platforms to withhold 100 percent of the tax on violent video game transactions and treat it as the final tax payment; and 3) establishing reporting obligations for digital service providers in compliance with the VAT law.
