Ministers Broadly Back EU VAT Reform But Call for Some Changes

Finance ministers from European Union countries said they backed a three-part plan to upgrade value-added tax collection in the bloc, but that the reform should be given more time and should not override national-level reforms.

Ministers from several countries said in a meeting Friday that one part of the plan, which would see online platforms including AirBnB and Uber become liable for collecting and paying VAT on behalf of their vendors, should be replaced by a requirement for platforms only to provide tax authorities with transaction information.
