National VAT Reporting Rules Hamper EU Work, Business Group Says

New national value-added tax reporting systems undercut plans to harmonize VAT reporting in the EU by 2028, the Confederation of European Business said.

The business group raised concerns in a letter Wednesday about an “increasing trend” of EU member states starting their own local VAT digital reporting systems despite negotiations for a bloc-wide digital system.
