Countries voiced strong support Monday for the United Nations to take an unobtrusive approach in crafting a new agreement on tax dispute prevention and resolution.
Delegates negotiating a new UN tax treaty in Nairobi, Kenya, backed a proposal from top negotiators that said a future agreement on tax disputes wouldn’t impose a single process for resolving disputes, but instead offer a menu of mechanisms to choose from. The deal also wouldn’t supersede existing dispute resolution tools, like those offered in tax treaties, if they applied to a particular dispute, the proposal said.
