The Dutch government will scrap a scheduled increase in value-added tax in the culture, media and sport sectors and will lower levies on energy bills, it announced Friday.
The budget statement sent to parliament, known as the Spring Memorandum, cited high inflation and a focus on defense and security as reasons for the measures.
“This is a solid and good package for the Netherlands,” Dutch Finance Minister Eelco Heinen said in a statement. “We cover setbacks and at the same time make a number of targeted investments.”
