New Zealand is mulling applying its own digital services tax if a planned global solution to taxing the digital economy doesn’t work out, government officials said Thursday.
While New Zealand is working with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development to address the challenges that the digital economy poses for international taxation, if that isn’t possible then “we need to be prepared to put in place our own rules to ensure multinationals pay a fair share of tax,” the government said in an explanation of its 2023 budget.
