No More Tampon Tax for Mexican Women in 2022 Budget: El CEO

Mexico plans to charge 0% value-added tax, known as IVA, on menstrual and other hygiene products for women, according to the 2022 budget proposal that will be submitted to Congress on Wednesday, business news site El CEO reports.

  • Current IVA tax on these products is 16%
  • “Taxing menstrual products means that this tax has an economic impact on women because of their biology and female gender,” says the proposal seen by El CEO
