Norway MOF Seeks Comments on Possible Elimination of Nitrogen Oxides Tax

The Norwegian Ministry of Finance April 8 opened a consultation on whether to eliminate or continue the nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions tax. The consultation seeks comments on whether the tax: 1) has fulfilled its purpose of meeting Norway’s international emission commitment under the Gothenburg Protocol and the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement; 2) should be discontinued from Jan. 1, 2028, given that the NOX Agreement between the government and business organizations, and certain exemptions, apply until 2027; and 3) should be discontinued from Jan. 1, 2030, the year when Norway is expected to receive a new emission obligation under the ...
