Norway Tax Agency Posts Board Ruling Clarifying VAT on Imported Services Used in Banking Activities

The Norwegian Tax Administration Aug. 29 posted Tax Appeals Board Decision No. SKNS1-2025-15, clarifying the VAT treatment of imported services used in banking activities. The taxpayer, a bank, purchased from a nonresident subcontractor remotely provided services from abroad for use in its business of selling financial services. The taxpayer claimed that these remotely provided services were financial services exempt from VAT. The Tax Office disagreed, contending that VAT was payable on the subcontractor’s services.
