OECD Looking at Ownership, Taxing Rights in NFT Study

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is examining key issues facing countries looking to tax non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, ahead of releasing a paper on the growing market this year, an official said Tuesday.

NFTs pose distinct issues for tax authorities compared with other digital assets, and their rapid rise in popularity is imposing difficult questions on which tax rules to apply and how, Michelle Harding, senior tax economist and head of the OECD’s tax data and statistical analysis unit, told a webinar hosted by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
