OECD Says Reforms, Digitalizing Could Boost Romanian Tax Revenue

Romania needs to raise more tax revenue more efficiently, and should consider a variety of reforms to help it do so, including modernizing its tax administration and shifting more goods and services onto the country’s standard value-added tax, the OECD said Tuesday.

Romania’s tax revenues are low by international standards, undercut by tax evasion, and the country needs higher taxes to fund emerging spending priorities while keeping public debt manageable, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development said in its 2024 economic survey of the country.
