Papua New Guinea Tax Agency Announces Zero-Rated GST Relief Period for Essential Goods

The Papua New Guinean Internal Revenue Commission May 20 announced a zero-rated GST relief period, from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, for specified essential goods. The announcement includes that: 1) the zero rate applies to essential goods, such as baby diapers, canned fish and meat, cooking oil, chicken, coffee, and rice; 2) all registered suppliers, retailers, and traders, are legally required to adjust prices to reflect the zero rate; 3) continuing to apply GST to the goods, or maintaining prices at pre-zero-rated levels, is noncompliance subject to penalties under the GST Act; 4) the goods qualify for the ...
