Philippines Tax Agency Announces Lower House Approval of Bills on VAT, Digital Transactions, Other Areas

The Philippine News Agency Nov. 14 announced the House of Representatives’ approval of House Bills 4102, 4122, and 4339, to amend laws on VAT, excise tax, and other taxes for digital and other transactions. House Bill 4122 contains measures to: 1) impose a 12 percent VAT on nonresident digital service providers; 2) require the providers to collect and remit the tax on transactions on their platforms; 3) clarify the imposition of VAT on sales of electronic and online advertising services, digital services for a subscription fee, and other electronic and online supplies of services; and 4) exempt educational services, including ...
