Physician’s Music Project Can’t Support Tax Deductions, IRS Says

An emergency medicine physician didn’t launch a music-centered blog and film production company with the intent to profit and therefore shouldn’t be allowed to deduct the related costs from his taxes as business expenses, the IRS said in a brief to the Ninth Circuit.

The US Tax Court properly determined Joseph Sherman owed about $63,400 in taxes and penalties after he didn’t comply with the court’s request to calculate his liabilities, and instead waited three months to ask for the case to be tossed, the IRS’s brief said.
