Poland’s Botched 50% Windfall Tax Rollout Fuels Business Fury

Poland clumsily moved toward imposing a hefty windfall tax, which businesses warned may trigger “a wave of bankruptcies.”

The lack of clarity over the tax -- which has been publicly discussed by leading officials for days without clarification over which companies will have to pay it -- helped push the nation’s WIG20 Index down as much as 3.2% on Monday. The stocks guage, the world’s worst-performer this year with a 36% decline, clawed back a portion of the losses on Tuesday.
