Poland Government Watchdog Calls for Overhaul of Tax Proceedings

Poland’s public defender called on the government Tuesday to rewrite tax rules that allow the authorities to drag out tax proceedings and hurt the ability of courts to reverse unfair decisions.

The ongoing practice of Polish tax authorities using criminal tax proceedings to suspend the statute of limitations for tax collections raises “serious constitutional doubts,” Ombudsman Marcin Wiącek said in a statement to Finance Minister Magdalena Rzeczkowska.
