Polish Bank Shares Drop as Domanski Mentions Planned Tax (1)

Polish banks declined after Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski said late on Wednesday that he’s working on a levy for the financial industry.

  • “I have announced work currently underway at the Ministry of Finance on a tax that would be borne by the banking sector” Domanski told broadcaster Polsat in an interview
  • NOTE: It’s not immediately clear whether he was referring to his previously floated proposal for taxing profits earned on interest from mandatory reserves, or a different levy such as a windfall tax
    • Ministry officials weren’t immediately available for comment
