Puerto Rico Treasury Issues Circular Extending Annual Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Exemption Period

The Puerto Rican Treasury May 14 issued Circular Letter No. 25-10, extending the annual hurricane preparedness sales and use tax exemption period that starts on May 23 this year. The circular letter explains that: 1) the final day of the 2025 exemption period is extended to May 26 from May 25; 2) the exemption applies to retail sales of qualifying hurricane preparedness items and equipment; 3) specific rules apply during the exemption period to rain checks, lay away sales, gift certificates and cards, and sales by mail, telephone, email, or the internet; and 4) merchants must report exempt sales on ...
