The Romanian National News Agency May 14 announced the government’s same date approval of a decision to increase mining tax rates for 2025, due to inflation. The decision includes measures to increase rates to: 1) 599 Romanian lei (US$134) per square kilometer from 558 lei (US$124), the annual tax for prospecting; 2) 2,405 lei (US$536) per square kilometer from 2,241 lei (US$500), the annual exploration tax; and 3) 60,100 lei (US$13,404) per square kilometer from 56,011 lei (US$12,492), the annual exploitation tax.
