Russia officially began the process of withdrawing from its double tax treaty with the Netherlands on Monday.
Many multinational companies that invest between Russia and the Netherlands face double taxation if the treaty benefits disappear, which will happen on Jan. 1, 2022, if no agreement is salvaged.
A spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Finance said Russia hadn’t sent a formal notice of termination to the Netherlands as of Monday. If the notice is received by June 30, the treaty will no longer be in force on Jan. 1, 2022.
