Singapore Cost of Car Ownership Hits Record Amid Tax Hikes (1)

High-end car owners in Singapore got another round of bad news after last week’s tax announcements, as premiums for the right to buy autos hit a fresh record in the latest round of bidding.

The certificates of entitlement for open category autos, which can be used for any vehicle type but end up being used mainly for large cars, rose to S$118,001 ($88,000) in February’s second round of bids, besting a previous high set in November, according to Land Transport Authority data.
