Slovenia Approves Rescue Package to Counter Virus Impact

April 2, 2020, 8:16 PM UTC

Slovenia would temporarily cancel advance corporate income tax payments and exempt employers from a pension insurance tax as part of a broader coronavirus relief package.

  • Companies wouldn’t have to pay monthly advance corporate tax payments until May 31, according to legislation approved by parliament Thursday.
  • Businesses that continue to operate would be exempt from paying pension insurance on behalf of their employees in April and May.
  • Pension insurance is an 8.85% tax employers pay on an employee’s gross compensation. Employees pay a 15.5% tax on that income.
  • The measure now heads to the president to be signed into law.
