Slovenia Mulls Additional Bank Tax for 5 Years for Flood Relief

Finance Ministry in Ljubljana proposes temporary taxation of banks should amount to 0.2% of total assets, it says in emailed statement.

  • Proposal takes into account the fact that banks increased their profitability last year, while profits are also increasing in 1H 2023
  • Extra taxation will be a source of funds for Slovenian Reconstruction Fund (SOS Fund), from which they will also be provided grants and grants to finance the population, the economy and infrastructure for remedying post-flood damage
  • Shares in Nova Ljubljanska drop 1.3%
