Sri Lanka Parliament Approves Bill to Increase Monthly, Daily Minimum Wage Rates

The Sri Lankan Parliament July 22 approved Bill No. 13, to increase the monthly and daily minimum wage rates. The bill includes measures to: 1) increase the monthly minimum wage rate to 27,000 Sri Lankan rupees (US$89.49) from 17,500 rupees (US$58.01), and the daily minimum wage rate to 1,080 rupees (US$3.58) from 700 rupees (US$2.32), effective April 1 through Dec. 31; and 2) further increase the monthly minimum wage rate to 30,000 rupees (US$99.44), and the daily minimum wage rate to 1,200 rupees (US$3.98), effective Jan. 1, 2026.
