The Sri Lankan Parliament April 9 approved Bill No. 56, to amend the Social Security Contribution Levy Act. The bill includes measures to: 1) reduce, to 36 million Sri Lankan rupees (US$113,856), from 60 million rupees (US$189,760), the annual turnover threshold for Social Security Contribution Levy (SSCL) registration; 2) require registration within 15 days, once quarterly turnover exceeds 9 million rupees (US$28,475), or four quarters of turnover exceeds 36 million rupees, effective April 1; and 3) limit the exemption for imported motor vehicles to imports made prior to April 1, and introduce an exemption for all motor vehicles effective from ...
