Sweden Calls for Quicker Adoption of EU VAT Overhaul

The Swedish tax agency said Monday it wished e-invoicing is soon adopted nationally across the EU to better tackle VAT fraud.

The agency stopped SEK 534 million ($54.9 million) in incorrect VAT reimbursements last year, it said in a statement.

But it argued that if the EU’s VAT reform law had already been enforced, “large parts of the attacks on the VAT system that we have now manually stopped would not be possible to implement at all.”
