Sweden Tax Agency Updates Guidance to Reflect ECJ Decision on VAT on Management Fees

The Swedish Tax Agency Aug. 15 updated guidance to reflect a European Court of Justice (ECJ) judgment regarding VAT on management fees. The guidance clarifies that: 1) VAT applies to the management fees that collective management organizations deduct from compensation derived from private copying activities; and 2) the management fees are subject to VAT even if the services are ancillary to executing VAT-exempt transactions.
