Taiwan MOF Announces Parliament Approval of Bill to Extend Commodity Tax Exemption for Electric Vehicles

The Taiwanese Ministry of Finance Dec. 23, 2025, announced that the Legislative Yuan passed a bill to amend the Commodity Tax Act, to extend, to Dec. 31, 2030, from Dec. 31, 2025, the commodity tax exemption for electric vehicles. The announcement also clarifies that the tax exemption applies to electric passenger sedans with a taxable value of up to NT$1.4 million (US$44,291), and that any amount exceeding that would be subject to a 50 percent tax reduction.
