Taiwan MOF Explains Individual Income Tax Withholding Rules for Nonresident Taxpayers

The Taiwanese Ministry of Finance April 11 clarified the individual income tax withholding rules for nonresident taxpayers. The explanation includes: 1) an increase of the taxable income threshold to NT$37,875 (US$1,299), due to the increased monthly baseline salary of nonresident taxpayers to NT$25,250 (US$866), effective Jan. 1; 2) a 6 percent withholding tax rate for monthly baseline salary amounts up to NT$37,875; 3) an 18 percent withholding tax rate for monthly baseline salary amounts above NT$37,875; and 4) the requirement for withholding agencies to submit payment within 10 days of withholding.
