Taiwan MOF Seeks Comments on Draft Amendments to Commodity Tax Act

The Taiwanese Ministry of Finance May 8 opened a consultation on draft amendments to the Commodity Tax Act. The draft amendments include measures to: 1) revise consignment manufacturing rules by requiring product names on packaging and allowing use of either manufacturer’s details; 2) allow manufacturers or importers of electric vehicles to obtain tax exemption certificates before factory release or import; and 3) introduce an effective date and compliance framework for tax exempt manufacturing and importing of electric vehicles.
