Taiwan Rushes to Bring Money Back Home as Tax-Break Scheme Ends

Taiwanese companies made a last-minute rush to bring their money held overseas back home before a two-year government incentive program came to an end Monday, but total applications still fell well short of initial bullish estimates.

Companies applied to bring home NT$79.9 billion ($2.9 billion) in the month leading up to Aug. 16, a more-than 490% increase from the previous month, according to data from the Ministry of Finance. Firms have repatriated NT$354.8 billion back to Taiwan since the government first launched the program in August 2019.
