Tax Court Rules Against Coca-Cola in $882 Million Brazil Dispute

The US Tax Court has rejected Coca-Cola Co.’s challenge to an $882 million transfer pricing adjustment in Brazil, saying its ruling in a separate case in February precluded the challenge and that the company hadn’t provided enough evidence to claim otherwise.

The ruling Wednesday decides the last outstanding piece of a broader case in which Coca-Cola faces a $3.4 billion tax bill over whether its affiliates had paid it enough for the right to use its intangible property—like trademarks, brand names, and secret formulas—to make and sell the ingredients for its soft drinks.
